Can Hypnotherapy Improve Confidence?

What a challenging time it has been for everyone. The pandemic and multiple lockdowns have meant that many people have been affected by low self-confidence, often struggling to find the motivation to work and find the energy to complete household chores. Whether they’ve been living alone, lost touch with friends and family, been furloughed or lost their job, the challenges of the pandemic has left many individuals with a battered ego and low confidence.

Covid-19 has affected global self-confidence in so many ways, and for some, this has left people feeling lonely, withdrawn and nervous with the concept of going out, or just generally feeling more anxious or stressed, resulting in disturbed sleep and overwhelming feelings that make it harder to cope. When we are feeling anxious, this causes us to doubt ourselves and our capabilities. This feeling of limitation lowers our self-confidence, adding to anxiety, which can make us question our ability to handle demanding situations.

Psychological shifts can be challenging for everyone, but the good news is that there is a lot that we can all do to reinvigorate our self-esteem, build adaptability, and find the motivation to get on with the challenges and changes that life has in store for us.

How To Improve Confidence

There are no strict guidelines when it comes to improving confidence. One of the first things you can do to help yourself is to open up to someone you trust to tell them how you feel. It can help us feel close to people who care, and even speaking about our feelings out loud can help us feel better. Remind yourself that you have value and start a conversation with someone who can empathise. It could be your GP, an older relative, therapist, or a friend that you trust.

Hypnotherapy can help reduce anxiety and build confidence allowing you to think more positively and feel better equipped to deal with challenging situations. When we feel stressed and anxious, the brain surpasses the part that makes rational, informed and calculated decisions. Subconsciously, we want to keep safe, so we can often choose to avoid situations that make us feel uncomfortable, whereas we need these situations to grow, develop, lower the threat level so that over time, the brain learns that everything is ok. Seeing a Hypnotherapist can help build confidence, improve your mindset and manage vulnerability, critical ingredients in building confidence.

Here Are Some Tips That Can Help Build Confidence

Note to self: You are going to need to put some time aside to do this. You will need a paper and a pen. Don’t use a phone – de-tech yourself where possible.

  1. Identify negative self-talk Notice the situations where you are hard on yourself. Take the opportunity to reassure yourself instead. What would your best friend say to you to make you feel better?
  2. Remember your accolades Remember the time when your colleague praised you for some work you did, or your best friend told you how kind you are? Take some time to list recent compliments.
  3. Plan and be prepared If you have a tricky situation like a meeting or a presentation looming, then take time to organise your workload, use techniques to boost positivity, and if there is an opportunity to then rehearse, rehearse, rehearse.
  4. Reframe Do you remember those times in the past where you didn’t feel confident, and then it turned out ok? Do you have any recent recollections of times when you felt confident – what did that feel like, what was your body doing at that moment – what was your facial expression like? Bring to mind memories of times when you have felt confident to reinforce the present. The brain’s anxiety centre will only show us what is wrong or what went wrong in the past.
